Macs Bow out in 4 games

The Halifax McDonalds fantastic season came to an end Saturday night at the Dartmouth Sportsplex losing a close one 3-2.
Despite outshooting the opposition 36-25, the Macs could not come up with the equalizer to force extra time. The Macs, despite carrying the edge in shots in every game, were unable to solve the opposition goaltender and bow out in the best of 5 final series 3 games to 1.
Lots of positives for a team with 15 rookies this season as the team was able to win back to back regular season titles and return to the finals for a second straight year after a dramatic comeback down 3 games to 1 in the semi finals, winning game 7 late in the third period on home ice.
Shane Bowers won the regular season scoring title marking the second yr in a row for a Mac (Luc Poirier 13/14) proving once again that this is a destination for offensive players that want to flourish and use their creativity.
Bowers went on to win the playoff scoring race, followed by Jake Hickey finishing in 2nd place, and Christian Huntley finishing 5th in scoring which was tops for all defenseman. An impressive feat for a rookie.
Our rookie goaltenders showed maturity beyond their years in leading this team all year.
6 of our players cracked the provinces Canada Games roster (Allen, Welsh, Bowers, Shaw, Huntley, Cameron) and 5 received league awards at the yearend banquet:
Bowers – MVP and Top Scorer
Dachyshyn – First team all star
Hickey – Second Team All Star
Ormon – Top Defenceman
Huntley – All Rookie Team
With a large core eligible to return and some promising new faces coming to the team in the near future, the Macs are excited about the prospects for the 2015/16 season.
We look forward to watching a number of our players make the jump to Major Junior next year.
