Cameron accepts Prep School offer

The Halifax McDonalds Major Midgets are pleased to announce that defenseman Jack Cameron has accepted a package to play at Lawrence Academy Prep School in Groton, Massachusetts for the 2015-16 season.

Cameron had an outstanding rookie season with the Macs tallying 3 goals and 23 assists in 33 games.  He tallied 9 points in the teams 17 game run to the league finals.

“I'd like to thank the Macs for a fantastic first year of Major Midget hockey. Playing with the Macs was one of the best years of my life. It's true when people say it is the Macs family, and that extends from the players to the coaches, to Walshy, to Shyla and Cliff.   They welcome everyone, and it helped make my transition to Major Midget a lot easier. One of the highlights of the year for me was definitely going to the Beantown classic in the fall. My opportunity to go play in the States really came from our coaches making the decision to go to the Beantown.   This trip helped us get noticed by numerous schools and colleges, and I'm very appreciative for that trip.” Stated Cameron.

Jack was also a member of Team NS that took part in the Canada Winter Games, and was a recent draft pick of the Victoriaville Tigres in the QMJHL.

“Jack not only is a very intelligent hockey player, but a very intelligent student with very strong grades.  As a coach of this team I am sad to see Jack go but very excited for Jack.  He has a goal of playing NCAA hockey one day, and helping players move on to the next level is what this program is about.  Lawrence is getting a quality young man with lots of potential to do great things on the ice and in the classroom.” Stated coach Tim Boyce.

Lawrence Academy competes in the 16-team Independent School League, which consists of selective college preparatory schools in and around the greater Boston area from as far north as Concord, NH, to as far south as Newport, RI. All ISL schools are members of NEPSAC, the New England Private School Athletic Council, which governs all interscholastic play for independent schools in the Northeast.

Cameron joins a blue line returning 5 defenseman from last years squad that finished 7th out of 8 teams in the Keller Division of the ISL with a record of 7 wins 16 losses and 2 ties.

The Macs would like to wish Jack all the best in his goal to one day play NCAA hockey.
