Ormon commits to Northwood Prep School

2015-06-25

The Halifax McDonalds are pleased to announce that last years captain, Nick Ormon has committed to Northwood Prep School in beautiful Lake Placid, NY.

Northwood School is a co-educational college preparatory school serving a boarding and day population of 175 students in grades 9 to 12. Located in the Olympic village of Lake Placid, New York students are offered a unique combination of rigorous academic preparation, wilderness appreciation, and athletic competition.

All teams at Northwood play between 40-50 games in a season with tournaments and games in the United States and Canada.  Students are on the ice five to six days a week from the start of October until mid-March.  Practices and games for all teams are played at the Olympic Center in downtown Lake Placid.

Hockey players at Northwood School are on a twelve month strength and conditioning program, which utilizes their fitness center on campus during the school year.  Each player is also introduced to a comprehensive nutrition program for both dining on campus and traveling during the season.  Students/athletes have the availability of a full time athletic trainer, strength and conditioning coach, and sports psychologist on staff to utilize and further develop themselves as individuals and hockey players.

Nick had this to say about his time with the Macs: “I'd like to thank the McDonalds organization for the first two years of my midget career, it truly was a pleasure playing for the organization. I'd personally like to thank the coaches Tim, Darrell, Mike, and Tony for everything they have taught me over the last two years. Walshy for always being positive and having things ready when the players need it. To Shyla and Cliff thanks for all the kind words, the countless hours that you guys dedicate to this team, and the cakes that you guys make for all the players. To the players, I appreciate everything you guys taught me from the rookies this year to the vets last year. The memories that we made will last a life time. “

“We are extremely happy for Nick that he is moving onto a quality school like Northwood.  Nick was a great leader for our club this year and personally I am going to miss having him around the rink.  Nick is a mature young man who was a pleasure to coach for two years.  Northwood is getting a very well rounded defenceman in all three zones, but more importantly they are getting a fantastic young man whom the coaching staff are going to love working with.” Stated coach Tim Boyce

Congratulations Nick and all the best on your next adventure south of the border from everyone with the Macs!
