Macs Lose in IceJam final
2016-01-11The Halifax McDonalds made a fantastic run to the finals of the 2016 Chronicle Herald Icejam tournament.
The Macs played 7 games in 5 days, four of which went to overtime. Here is a quick recap of the tournament:
Halifax 2 Moncton 1 OT - After giving up a goal with a minute to play, Sam Allison scored in OT on the powerplay to give the Macs their first win of the Tournament.
SJ Maple Leafs 2 Halifax 1 OT - The Leafs got the best of the macs in OT behind some solid goaltending from both clubs.
Halifax 2 SJ Vitos 2 OT - The Macs eliminate the NB PEI Major Midget league leaders and Telus Cup hosts with a 2-2 overtime tie.
Halifax 5 - Kensington 2 - The Macs rode discipline and 3 powerplay goals to the round of 16 win.
Halifax 3 Valley 2 OT - After giving up a late goal to tie the game, Lauchie MacDoanld was the hero in OT lifting the macs to the semi finals
Halifax 3 SJ Privateers 2 - Jarrett Baker scores with 55 seconds remaining in the game to break the tie and send the Macs to the finals for the second time in three yrs.
Dartmouth 5 Halifax 1 - Penalties in the second period would prove to be the undoing of the Macs as the Dartmouth squad scores 2 powerplay goals to take a 3-0 lead that the macs could never recover from.
Overall a fantastic week for one of the youngest teams in Atlantic Canada. Get better everyday! Onward and upward!
