Tians Lose Semi-Final in OT
The Titans had a very successful tournament in Gatineau Quebec this week.
Things started slow with a 5-3 loss to Team Quebec Under 16 Team (The eventual tournament winners). The Titans then ran off impressive victories against The Rothesay Riverhawks 3-1 and The Fredericton Canadians 3-0 in the round robin.
The Titans second place finish earned them a crossover game against The Charlottetown Islanders. The Titans came away with a 3-2 victory highlighted by a late penalty shot in which Brandon Whitney easily handled with 10 seconds remaining in the game.
Next The Titans dominated in the Quarterfinals, winning 8-3 over The Moncton Flyers setting up a Semifinal game against The Vaughan Kings on Sunday morning. A win would set up a rematch in the Finals against Team Quebec Under 16.
The Titans played another great game in the Semifinal. Brandon Whitney put on an incredible goaltending display, putting the Titans in a position to lead 3-2 with 2 minutes left in the third. An unfortunate bounce sent the game to overtime, where the Vaughan Kings got the eventual winner.
Over all it was a great week of hockey and the players and coaches should be quite happy with their efforts.
On a personal note, Brandon Whitney was awarded “Best Goaltender of the Tournament”
Congratulations Brandon, it was well deserved!
