Titans Win Atlantics - Next Stop Telus Cup!

The Halifax TaylarMade Security Titans are heading to the Telus Cup as Atlantic Major Midget Champions.

The Titans went 3-1 in round robin action in Charlottetown this weekend. Winning 3-0 over Cornwall, 4-3 over Fredericton, 6-0 over Charlottetown, and losing 5-3 against St John’s.

The Finals saw The Titans getting a rematch against the St John’s Privateers with both teams already securing Telus Cup appearances (St John’s Host Team).

With The Atlantic Major Midget Championship on the line, The Titans jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 7 seconds into the first. Bradley MacEachern stole the puck from the Privateers’ defensemen off the opening faceoff and started the Titans in the right direction. The Privateer’s would then tie the game shortly after.

Damon MacEachern (Mitchell Henneberry, Jordan Keiser) gave the Titans the lead once again on the power play. The Privateer’s managed to tie the game two more times but the Titans responded immediately on both occasions before The St Johns’ goals could even be announced. Ryan Falkenham (John Mullally, Bradley MacEachen) and the eventual game winner by Jeremy Butterworth (Tyler Mathieu, Brennan Saulnier) made it 4-3 after two periods.

The Titans played an amazing third period, doing all the little things to hold on to their one goal advantage. Incredible defensive play, getting the puck deep, and working as a cohesive unit made for a very entertaining final.

The Titans are now off to 2011 TELUS Cup National Midget Hockey Championship in St John’s Newfoundland and Labrador representing the Atlantic Region April 18-24.
