The Halifax Major Midget Hockey Club is pleased to announce two additions to the hockey clubs staff for the 2013-14 season....
The Halifax Major Midget Hockey Club is pleased to announce two additions to the hockey clubs staff for the 2013-14 season.
Tony McCarthy will be returning to the hockey club as an assistant coach. Tony is another former player with the Halifax major midget program spending two seasons with the club in 2001 and 2002 when he served as team captain.
Tony would go to play Junior A hockey in the Saskatchewan junior hockey league for two and a half seasons capturing the league regular season championship in his first year, Tony then returned to Halifax to finish his junior career playing a season with Halifax of the MHL before joining the Sackville blazers of the NSJHL capturing both the Nova Scotia championship as well as the Atlantic championship, The Don Johnson cup.
Tony is the third coach to join the staff for the coming season that went through the program as a player.
Tony went to both the University of Regina in Saskatchewan and Mount Saint Vincent where he took his Bachelor of Arts.
Shortly after university Tony began his coaching career with the Halifax Major midgets where he was an assistant coach for three seasons. In his last season the team won the bronze medal at the Atlantic Championship.
Due to a work opportunity In Alberta Tony had to leave the club. A recent career opportunity has brought Tony back to Halifax giving him the chance to re join the franchise as an assistant coach and the club is extremely pleased to have Tony back in the fold.
David Algee will be joining the club as Education Advisor for the coming season.
Dave, is a former player in the NSEMMHL with the Dartmouth club where he still ranks among one of the top scoring defenseman in club history. Dave went on to play a season in the USHL with the now defunct Thunder Bay Flyers as well as the MHL with Halifax and Antigonish.
Academically, Dave has been a teacher at JL Ilsley High School for 10 yrs where he holds a Masters of Education in leadership and school development. He also serves as the teams Head Hockey coach (10 yrs) and Athletic Director (5 yrs).
In addition to these titles, Dave also served as the Education Advisor for the Dartmouth Taylor Flooring Major Midgets for the past 7 seasons.
With the addition of Tony and Dave to our hockey club, we have added a great level of experience and knowledge to our staff as we continue to prepare for the upcoming 2013-14 hockey season. It is our goal to give our players the best experience on and off the ice, while we prepare them for their hockey goals and academic futures.
