Player Profile Ryan Fortune

2008-02-04

The Mac's Are Proud To Present Team Captain, Ryan Fortune.

Left winger Ryan Forutne comes to the Mac's via the CHBA minor hockey system. Standing 6'2" and weighing in at 198 lbs this third year Mac brings experience, leadership and size to the team. Previous to joining the Mac's , Ryan was a member of the provincial Under 15 and Under 16 teams, played AAA Bantam and, as captain, helped lead his Peewee team to a provincial championship. During his minor hockey days Ryan received many awards including numerous player of the game and MVP accolades. (He currently spends a day a week timing minor hockey games in Cole Harbour). As recent evidence of Ryan's skills and ability he was selected in the fourth round of last years' MJAHL draft.

While continuing to work on his explosivness Ryan feels one of the best strengths he brings to the Mac's is solid two way play. A couple of his other attributes are his ability to battle down low and go to the net strong. These strengths are well respected by the Mac's coaching staff as, outside of his regular shifts Ryan sees duty on both the PK and PP units.

Known to his team mates as "Fortch" Ryan enjoys the comedic comraderie of his team mates. Ryan also appreciates the coahcing staff for their knowledge and understanding of the game and for their ability to treat everyone on the team with fairness.

Ryan is a Calgary Flames fan citing Jerome Inginla as his favourite NHLer.  Ryan zeros in on 'Q' player and local fan favourite Jakub Voracek as the Moosehead's best " as he dominates and makes everyone around him better."

Ryan is entering his final term of high school. He enjoys the teaching of Mr MacKenzie, Global History, and Mr Ray who teaches his favourite subject,  Phys Ed. Ryan is very much interested in playing major junior in the 'Q' and is working hard to see that goal realized. After his hockey career winds down Ryan has a long term goal of following in his Dad's footsteps and becoming a successful businessman or possibly, working in law enforcement as a member of the RCMP.

Another fan of comedy, when asked who he might like to spend a day with Ryan tells us he would have to pick that hilarious, funny guy, Adam Sandler.

Ryan brings tremendous leadership, experience and dedication to the team. He has been an exemplary player for the Mac's,  who will look to him to lead as they head into the play-off  stretch of this 2007 - 2008 season
