Yochoff and Poirier Pushing Hard To The Net

The Halifax McDonalds returned from the 33rd Annual Monctonian on Sunday and they may not was come home with the trophy, they certainly demonstrated they have ability to play with some of the top teams in the country.

The Macs made it into Sunday’s semi finals and took the eventual Monctonian winners, the Notre Dame Greyhounds to their limit as their game was decided in overtime. When asked about the results of the tournament,  head coach Tim Boyce said `` overall a success, lots of positive comments about our players from the scouts in attendance and our guys certainly raised their battle level in the games versus OHA and Notre Dame``  He was also pleased with the effort of the team. `` They (the Macs) realize what kind of effort and sacrifice is needed to compete with the best of the best and I am looking forward to the second half of the season.  The bar has been raised!``

The Monctonian Tournament also saw the return of veteran forward Jordan Bezanson who has been sidelined with an upper body injury since the start of  the season. With Bezanson the Macs also recently saw the return of Peter Drohan and Carter Piercey back in the line up but injury kept Morgan Nauss and 3rd year defenseman Patrick Stewart out of the tournament. `` Line combos were juggled a little bit due to injury but I think we found some balance over the weekend which was nice to see.`` said Boyce  ``We got scoring from different players over the weekend.``

Coach Boyce was also very pleased to see 3 of our rookie players (Jones, Pickard and Dachyshyn) selected in the QMJHL`s Prospects Game``  I think we could have had more``  On another high note for the team; second year player Justin Doiron must have caught the eye of the scouts as he was offered and accepted an AP position with the host city Moncton Wildcats.

The Monctonian is the first of three major tournaments that the McDonalds participate in this season. In only 3 weeks the bus will load again for the Quebec Reebok Challenge in Quebec City. When looking ahead to Quebec, Boyce was quoted `` The competition there will be even tougher.  I am really happy we are going there because it will force our guys to raise their game even more in order to compete and that will help us get better as a club.``

The Macs are back in action this Saturday afternoon when they will host the Cape Breton West Islanders. Game time is at 4:30 in the Halifax Civic Centre.
