Power Play Goals Lift Macs to Victory
2013-11-23It's been 34 days since the McDonalds saw the familiarities of their home rink. It was also only the second home game in the confines of the Civic Centre this season but the Cape Breton West Islanders came to spoil the Mac's "house warming" party.
Stephen Sisco opened the scoring for CBW at 4:27 of the first. Eleven minutes later Stewart scored on the power play to give the Islanders a 2-0 lead that they took into the intermission.
The Macs showed a little life in the second when Carter Piercey scored on the power play to cut Cape Breton's lead in half.
Things came to life for the Macs in the third when Cape Breton's Bernard took a 4 minute spearing penalty early in the period. This penalty proved to be costly as the Macs then went on to score 3 times within 3 minutes, twice on the Bernard penalty.
The Macs came from behind to defeat the Islanders 4-2. Scoring for Halifax was Piercey, MacEachen, Poirier and Grant. Justine Ritcey made 32 saves for the win.
The Macs will now travel across the bridge to Dartmouth to battle their metro rivals, the Newbridge Academy Gladiators. Game time is at 7:15pm on Saturday (Nov 30)
