Wolfpack and McDonalds Clash in an Epic Battle

2013-12-05

Top Teams Clash

Two the of the NSEMMHL’s top teams clashed on Wednesday night in an epic battle. The 1st place Cole Harbour Pro Hockey Life Wolfpack came to Halifax tied for the league record in most consecutive wins; a record that was held by the 2009/10 Halifax franchise.

The teams battled back and forth early on but it wasn’t until the 14 minute mark of the 2nd period before Johnny Jones would open the scoring for the McDonalds. The lead was short lived as Cole Harbour answered back less than a minute later. Dillon Boucher would reclaim the lead for Halifax with 1:24 in the period.

The 3rd period saw lots of pressure from Cole Harbour. Justin Ritcey saw 17 shots alone in the 3rd but was on his A-game. Just when Halifax thought the game may be theirs they lost possession in their zone and were caught in an odd man rush which allowed Dumaresque to tie the game for Cole Harbour with 47 seconds left.

The physicality continued into overtime, which resulted in a stoppage to repair a pain a glass but the period ended with still no clear winner.

The shootout ended in the 4th round when Luc Poirier could not get the puck above the pad of Mark Grametbauer. Grametbauer made 32 saves in the win for Cole Harbour while Justin Ritcey ended the night with 42 saves.

It was a hard earned battle for the Cole Harbour squad and the Halifax McDonalds would like to congratulate the Wolfpack for setting the new league record for consecutive wins.
