HALIFAX McDONALDS ARE ICE JAM CHAMPS
HALIFAX, NS, January 12, 2014 - The Halifax McDonalds won their own tournament Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 win over the Cole Harbour Wolf Pack at the East Coast Ice Jam with Luc Poirier leading the team.
The McDonalds were in the lead from the opening whistle, leading the first 2-0 as Luc Poirier scored a pair of goals just over a minute apart near the middle of the frame. Jordan Yochoff assisted on the first and Johnny Jones on the second.
The Wolf Pack fought back in the second getting the first goal just 52 seconds in on a goal by Connor Peveril on the power play. Nick Bruce and Liam Rappoldt getting the assists. But Halifax came back to retake their two goal lead as Johnny Jones found the mark assisted by Poirier and Yochoff. It was his first counter of two in the period as he scored a minute after Cole Harbour had once again narrowed the lead to one.
Nick Bruce scored for the Wolf Pack with Rappoldt and Connor Welsh assisting. Poirier and Ethan Marsh assisted on Jones second goal. And the McDonalds left the ice still up by two.
Only Halifax managed to score in the third with Justin Doiron finding the mark at the halfway mark unassisted.
Reilly Pickard stopped 32 of 34 shots to take the win in net. Mark Grametbauer made 27 saves in the loss.
