Halifax loses 3-0 to Toronto at Telus Cup midget championship

The Halifax McDonald’s are still looking for their first win at the Telus Cup midget hockey championship.

The Atlantic champions dropped a 3-0 decision to the Toronto Young Nationals on Tuesday in preliminary action of the national tournament in Moose Jaw, Sask.

Tyler Longo scored two third-period goals and Izzy Benigno made 22 saves for Toronto (1-1-0).

Reilly Pickard turned aside 16 shots in goal for Halifax (0-1-1).

The McDonald’s played to a 2-2 tie with the host Moose Jaw Generals in their preliminary opener on Monday.

Dawson Davidson and Ben Verrall scored twice in 57 seconds in the third period as Moose Jaw came back from a two-goal deficit.

Jordan Yochoff and Luc Poirier answered for Halifax, which was outshot 40-14 in the game. Justin Ritcey kicked out 38 shots.
