McDonald’s take comeback route for first win at Telus Cup

MOOSE JAW, SASK. — The Halifax McDonald’s erased a three-goal deficit in the third period in a 5-4 win over the Okanagan Rockets at the 2014 Telus Cup national major midget hockey championship on Thursday.
The come-from-behind victory for Halifax was their first win of the tournament. The McDonald’s improved to 1-2-1.
Halifax roared back with four unanswered goals in the third period, after trailing 4-1 heading into the final frame. Patrick Stewart, Jordan Yochoff, Dillon Boucher and Ethan Marsh all found the back of the net in the final stanza, while Shawn Hubley scored in the second.
The Halifax goaltending duties were split between Reilly Pickard and Justin Ritcey. Pickard stopped 27 of 31 shots before being replaced by Justin Ritcey in the second, who stopped all 12 shots sent his way.
Halifax concludes preliminary-round action Friday at 4 p.m. Atlantic time against the Prince Albert Mintos (1-0-2).
The semifinal round goes Saturday, with the bronze and gold medal games slated for Sunday.
